#RVA Pride is what keeps us in Richmond. #RVAPride is what we love and do in the city. #RVAPride is businesses, people, place, and things that support the LGBT community here in Richmond. #RVAPride is a campaign to help bring LGBT people to Richmond. Get in on the fun, use #RVAPride on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and help grow this city into the space we want it to be.
Maury Place at Monument is an inn owned and operated by local couple Mac Pence and Jeff Wells. They say “their vision is to create a space where people can relax and renew their spirits.” The historic home that houses Maury Place Inn was constructed in 1916, and all of the original architecture, structure, and floor plans were preserved through it’s renovation in 2008-09. Maury Place Inn is certified as a “Virginia Green Lodging” by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, which means even nature will thank you for staying here. Your visit will also provide you the opportunity to meet Chico and Lucy, the hospitable “Inn Dogs” at Maury Place, what more could you want? Jeff Wells, Innkeeper at Maury Place at Monument Ave, spoke with GayRVA about why he has #RVAPride
1 – Why are you participating in this campaign?
Because we are gay married couple who support gay equality in Virginia and Richmond. Richmond has a lot to offer, and is by and large accepting of the gay community.
2 – If you were to bring a LGBT friend/family member to Richmond, why would you take them to your establishment? Were else would you take them here in Richmond?
First, we are Richmond’s only luxury B&B and we are located in the middle of the Museum District and the Monument Avenue historic district. We are within walking distance of Richmond Triangle Players, the VA Museum of Fine Arts, and Carytown.
3 – why are you proud to support or be a member of the LGBT community here in Richmond?
We feel we are part of a historical shift in Richmond and in Virginia of openness and acceptance of the LGBT community. Richmond has a thriving arts and culture scene, and our community is very much a part of that.
