Kevin Clash, a puppeteer and producer for PBS’s Sesame Street, has been cleared of charges that he had a sexual relationship with an underaged man.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Clash, whose voice talents include Sesame Street star Elmo, came under fire after an internal investigation showed personal emails exchanged on company owned computers. The issue wasn’t made public until the “news” outfit TMZ approached Sesame Street Producers with what they called evidence of an illicit affair – emails proving the relationship started when the accuser was 16.
Today, in a dramatic twist of events, lawyers for the accuser have come forward saying the claims made against Clash were unsubstantiated. Clash had acknowledge the relationship between himself and the accuser, however he said it was of two consenting adults.
Clash has made no secret of his sexuality, and has said he is a proud gay man. He has since taken a leave of absence to help address the issue. Clash told the LA Times, “I am deeply saddened that he(the accuser) is characterizing it as something other than what it was.”
