We might see a local Richmond lady on American Idol next season. Joi Hamm, a junior at Virginia Commonwealth University and a specialist in the U.S. Army, made it through the first round of American Idol auditions last week with her rendition of Etta James’ “At Last.”
Hamm, a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist with the Army, will travel next to Kansas City, Missouri for the second round of auditions.
“I sang ‘At Last’ because it’s a pretty short song and I thought I could get the judge’s attention pretty quickly,” Hamm told VCU’s press office. “And also because it really brings out my voice. I like to sing high notes.”
