Whenever I hear someone say ‘same-sex marriage will ruin the fabric of society,’ I get a massive confidence boost because someone thinks my very existence is so powerful.
We do live in Virginia, so I suppose we shouldn’t be too surprised by the blow back the Bostic V. Rainey case is generating within the religious right.
The good folks at Hampton Road’s WAVY took time out of their busy (slow?) news week to give a platform to local hate-mongers, and man was it a lot of the same, tired, shit.
“Bringing up children an environment of two mothers and two fathers would lead to nothing but confusion,” said one pastor. “God put us here to multiply!” said another.
I’m just gonna nip this argument real quick – according to these people, single mothers/fathers, the infertile, and elderly couples past child bearing age are equally detrimental to the “fabric of society.” I certainly don’t agree with that, and neither would my LGBT friends with kids, or the folks I know who were raised by two moms/dads.
Take a look at the rest of the segment below. None of it is new, except now these people are on the losing side. This is all the more evident by some of the amazing remarks we heard at the Times-Dispatch Public Square event yesterday.
