LESBIAN GAY BISEXUAL TRANSGENDER RESOURCE CENTER
OFFICE OF THE DEAN OF STUDENTS
The University of Virginia seeks applicants for a Program Coordinator for the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center in the Office of the Dean of Students. This position is a full-time, twelve-month, University Managerial and Professional Staff position with benefits. The Program Coordinator reports to an Associate Dean of Students. The Program Coordinator has responsibility for organization and oversight of the LGBT Resource Center and support to and advocacy on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning students and related student organizations.
The Program Coordinator provides resources and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning students, faculty, and staff through promotion and oversight of social and personal support groups, regular staffing of the Center, fiscal oversight, outreach, and public speaking on behalf of this constituency and the Resource Center. The Program Coordinator coordinates annual events and ongoing programs sponsored by the Center and conceptualize and organize new initiatives. The Program Coordinator also cultivates members for and coordinates the operation of the LGBT RC Operating and Advisory Boards and develops working relationships with alumni, members of the University’s faculty and administration, community organizations and related state organizations.
Candidates for the Program Coordinator position will have a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of one year of relevant experience. It is highly preferred that candidates have a Master’s Degree in Student Affairs or a related field. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated understanding of the particular needs and special service demands of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, and questioning students; a strong commitment to student development; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of constituents, including students, alumni, parents, faculty and staff.
