President Elect Trump has released a video detailing his day-one plan for executive orders but protections for LGBTQs didn’t seem to make the cut.
While “putting America first” and making sure “the next generation of production innovation happens right here in America” was listed, making sure a federal contractor cannot fire someone because of who they love did not.
Currently, at the federal level, there are no legislated protections for LGBTQ employees in the private or federal workforce. The protections that due exist were signed into law by President Obama in July 2014 as an executive order protecting employees of federal contractors.
Trump, who said he would be a “friend of the gays” on the campaign trail, has sent mixed message with appointments of conservative legislators to important positions, like Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions for Attorney General who lost a judges seat over ethics violations.
