Lexi Coleman, a 24-year-old Mary Washington student, is breathing a sigh of relief after the man she said sexually assaulted her was put behind bars this week.
Coleman, who identifies as transgender, told CBS 6 that William Robert Somers, 35, of Bowling Green, was a familiar face around campus. She’d known Somers for some time, and often saw him teaching self-defense courses to women on campus.
“That makes me feel even worse and he was teaching young women and he was taking advantage of them,” Coleman told CBS6.
According to Coleman, Somers sexually assaulted her in a suite in the college’s basketball arena on 12/12, by 12/14 he had resigned from his post as a Campus Sargent and turned himself into Fredericksburg police.
Somers, who was a U.S. Army Special Operations Self-Defense and Survival Specialist, is reportedly being held in Rappahannock Regional jail without bond facing two felony counts of forcible sodomy.
