A transgender Virginia woman has started a crusade to change Virginia’s laws regarding driver’s licenses for trans individuals.
Lori Wright of Lynchburg takes issue with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ current polucy regarding transgender people, which states that anyone who wishes to change the sex listed on their license must provide proof of gender reassignment surgery. To that end, Wright has announced that she is drafter her own bill to change the policy.
“This one targeted population has to jump through a multitude of hoops, and pay enormous amounts of money just to have an ‘F’ on our driver’s license, and this is bogus,” Wright told WSET News. Wright says that if she cannot get legislators on board with her bill, she will seek the help of the American Civil Liberties Union.
