The happy couple – Katherine Walrod and Jessica Porras of Arlington, VA are planning a May 15 ceremony in Washington, D.C. Walrod’s parents currently reside in Chesterfield. The full announcement can be found here.
“It’s really not a change, we still have the same policy in our Celebrations section,” Terri Edwards, a spokesperson for the Richmond Times-Dispatch said. “Any submission is subject to the standards of acceptability.”
Edwards said the key factor in management’s decision to publish Sunday’s announcement is that the Walrod-Porras wedding will take place in DC where same-sex marriage is legally recognized.
Would a couple’s ceremony take place in Richmond, it would not fall within the standards since the Commonwealth of Virginia does not legally recognize same-sex marriage.
