TheatreLAB, owner and operator of Richmond’s The Basement theatre, has just finished a re-launch of their initiative to provide what they described as “unique theatrical experiences.”
To help realize their goal, TheatreLAB used the first leg of their first Capital Campaign to make improvements to The Basement to stage their production of Hedwig and The Angry Itch.
They plan to continue fundraising for other improvements to their theatre including HVAC, new bathrooms, and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The company also recently hired a full staff, adding Michael Jarett, as Director of Production, McLean Jesse as Associate Artistic Director, Ryan Allen as Director of Marketing, Heather Falks as Director of Community Outreach, and Chelsea Burke as Director of New Works.
Deejay Gray, the Artistic Director and Annie Colpitts, the Managing Director will continue on with the company.
A new logo (top image) is the face of the initiative, but new programs are the meat and potatoes of the matter. CompanyArtists is TheatreLAB’s new initiative to support their ensemble, allowing them use of The Basement. The company will also LABlog, which the company described in a statement as “a platform to share not only ideas and concepts about our work, but also stories from the artists making it all happen.”
TheatreLAB introduces these changes and expect more as they prepare for their 2015-2016 season, which is named “Vivid Impression of Reality.”
