The Daily Show with John Stewart took on the conservative right’s latest fight to hold back LGBTQ equality in the country – the fight for “religious freedom.”
Religious Freedom is an idea that’s been tossed around for the last year or so which follows the line of thought that forcing a business to serve a gay couple in any capacity flies in the face of the constitution and personal freedoms.
This of course, and with out any concept of irony, often involves passing laws which blur the line between church and state, adds undo burden to local businesses to police bathroom use, or generally makes a state government have to invest legislative time in a cause held by a minority of people.
Marshall, who authored VA’s 2006 ban on same-sex marriage, condemned his usual allies and long-time friends to the anti-gay movement by saying the Family Foundation “wants to protect Republicans more than they want to protect the policy of protecting the family first.”
