39-year-old Henry Edward Northington, a veteran of the US Navy who CBS claims was abandoned by his family because of his sexuality, was found beheaded and beaten along the Northbank of the James river back in 1999.
Richmond police originally investigated the incident as a hate crime, but Holmberg claims they backed down as the story started to gain national attention.
The CBS reporter caught up with Northington’s sister recently, nearly 16 years to the day that the crime occurred.
“It was overkill, it really was… Something that happened like that is very personal. And where they left him was a message,” Dianna Northingtod said, still unsure of who her brothers killer was. “It could be anybody… To think they did that to my brother . . . “
