Just got this in our inbox, thought we should share – we’ll be out there at Smatter at 8 pm.
As he read about the shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, James Wilson felt alternate waves of horror and sadness overtake him. As a gay man who plays regularly at LGBTQ clubs in NYC and the lead singer and keyboardist of Brooklyn-based queer country band, The Paisley Fields, these attacks struck Wilson particularly close to home.
“I was horrified and profoundly saddened by the violence in Orlando. My husband said we need to remember the dead and honor them. I know there is little we can do to ease the suffering of their loved ones, but we will stand with them in solidarity. My heart aches for them.”
To lose so many members of his community in the brutal massacre was devastating. And like many people, Wilson wanted to help these victims.
He and the rest of The Paisley Fields decided the best way to help was through their music.
“We all wanted to help in some way. My hope is that we can come together as a community to help our queer family members whose lives have been devastated.”
