The proposed language from January states the following:
B. The licensee shall prohibit acts of discrimination based on race, color, gender, national origin, age, religion, political beliefs, sexual orientation, disability, or family status to:
1. Delay or deny a child’s placement; or
2. Deny an individual the opportunity to apply to become a foster or adoptive parent.
The Liberty Council, a litigation group affiliated with the religious-right leaning Liberty University, issued a call to action to post on Virginia’s public comment site on Friday, April 1 – the same day comments were closed on the site. Since proposed, comments total over 1000.
Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is considering a regulation that would force even private, church-run adoption agencies to place children in homes with same-sex couples, where these vulnerable children will be influenced in their upbringing and education by practicing homosexuals.
