Richmond musician and teacher Phil Pollard of the Slomski Brothers passed away on Saturday.
Pollard was a volunteer at WRIR – Richmond’s Independent Radio Station. During his time at the station, he had also recorded three segments for The Rainbow Minute, the daily radio segment featuring LGBT history. (The Rainbow Minute text runs daily on GayRVA.com – you can read it here.)
Show producer Judd Proctor remembers Pollard.
“We’ve been feeling sad this weekend in hearing of the illness and death of Phil Pollard, a volunteer voice of “The Rainbow Minute.” Phil died on Saturday, October 29th, 2011, at the age of 44. He is survived by his wife, Dawn and three children. I volunteered with Phil at WRIR when he was a Board Operator and was impressed with his creativity. He was also among the most enthusiastic supporters of “The Rainbow Minute” and equality in general.”
Proctor has made CDs featuring the audio that Pollard recorded that will be available at the WRIR station. Listen to one of his episodes below.
