In a Quinnipiac University poll released this week, Virginia voters oppose same-sex marriage, but still show support for President Obama.
According to the poll, Obama has a 47-42 percent lead over Mitt Romney. Last March, Obama was leading by 50 percent.
In the poll, if McDonnell were added as Romney’s running mate, Obama would lead Romney by 48-43 percent.
Obama publicly announced his support for marriage equality last month.
The poll found only marriage equality and “extremely important” or “very important” issue to 25 percent of voters. Virginia voters oppose same-sex marriage 49-42 percent.
