November is Transgender Awareness Month, a time to remember those who are often the most neglected. A series of events have been planned – several local groups have been involved, and their goals are all the same – to make sure Central Virginia knows its trans population exists. GayRVA will be previewing and covering a number of these events, but please consider attending some of them yourself:
Monday November 11 at 6PM Dr Lisa Griffin, Ph.D. speaks. Dr Griffinspecializes in gender and sexual identity and orientation issues. She works primarily with gender-variant and transgender children, adolescents, and adults and their families. Sponsored by ALLIANCE FOR PROGRESSIVE VALUES SALON
Wednesday November 20 at 7 pm TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE Memorial service remembering those lost this year to transphobic violence with a candlelight memorial and celebration of life. The memorial service will feature community voices, a candlelight vigil, a proclamation from the city, and a performance by My Darling Fury, A reception with light refreshments will follow the memorial service.
