The purpose of BASE is to empower black members of the LGBT community to work together towards justice and equality for themselves and their community. BASE is committed to providing social support and advocacy for people of color at the University of Richmond, including students, faculty, and staff. We primarily focus on the intersection of race and sexual orientation within the black community, while working with those who are dealing with their sexual-orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Its mission is to address the element of race within the LGBT community and how it impacts the lives of those individuals. BASE aims to help foster Black LGBT awareness about the opportunities of leadership, community service and public policy.
BASE plans to work with members of the UofR community and outreach in to Greater Richmond to foster LGBT and racial equality. More information is available on the group’s Facebook page or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
