RICHMOND, VA. (April 23, 2010) — ROSMY announced today the 2010 Catalyst Award recipients, Mitchell Gold and Mothers & Others. ROSMY’s Catalyst Award recognizes an individual and corporation or business for exceptional commitment to bringing about significant change on behalf of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth through innovative leadership and passion for creating success.
Mitchell Gold, most often recognized for his talent and innovation as a partner and designer at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Furniture, is also turning heads with his passion and commitment to supporting his fellow gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community members. The editor of CRISIS: 40 Stories Revealing the Personal, Social, and Religious Pain and Trauma of Growing up Gay in America, Mitchell caught the attention of ROSMY just over a year ago at the National Creating Change Conference. Within weeks of being introduced to the book, a relationship was born with a warm and welcomed introduction of ROSMY to Mitchell at his factory in Taylorsville, NC. Over the past year Mitchell’s relationship with ROSMY has grown in partnership with Faith in America, a nonprofit organization he founded dedicated to ending the harm caused by religion-based bigotry. Through this partnership ROSMY was able to develop and implement our CRISIS program which has distributed over 350 CRISIS books and our values based curriculum to area school administrators.
Mothers and Others of Virginia promotes recognition and acceptance of the inalienable right of all gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals to peacefully pursue their own personal happiness. They use the principles of equality and fairness along with accurate information to replace misinformation with facts, intolerance with understanding, and indifference with concern. Mothers and Others has played a valuable role in CRISIS package distribution. They serve alongside ROSMY in the Central Virginia Rainbow Partnership, which works to end discrimination toward GLBT members of our community.
The Catalyst Awards will be presented at ROSMY’s Third Annual Springtime in the Garden on May 16, 2010 at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. The event will include a lavish brunch and auction with proceeds benefiting ROSMY.
