The dictionary just goLGBTQ-friendly words added to it. Merriam-Webster Unabridged announced about two weeks ago that it has added over 1,400 new terms and phrases to the dictionary and two of those include “cisgender” and “genderqueer.”
Below are the definitions Merriam-Webster has included for the two newly-added words:
Cisgender: of, relating to, or being a person whose gender identity corresponds with the sex the person had or was identified as having at birth
Genderqueer: of, relating to, or being a person whose gender identity cannot be categorized as solely male or female.
The additions reflect how society is making strides to include everyone and making sure the conversation on gender identity continues.
