A new study released by the Williams Institute at UCLA shows the children of lesbian parents were as (if not more) successful and socially adjusted as their straight counterparts. The study based the success on scoring from the students (8.14 out of 10) as well as academic performance, with the average grade of the children being above a B-.
“These kids were planned and their lesbian mothers were very engaged in parenting,” said Nanette Gartrell, principal investigator of the study for the Williams Institute. “At the end of high school, the teens tell us that they have excellent grades, feel connected to their families and friends, and admire their parents.” -CBS News
The study spanned 26 years and included 78 children. The kids also said they were comfortable discussing their same-sex parents, and they had a better understanding of people’s differences.
Perhaps it was the result of planned parenting – these kids were intended to be loved and cared for, and their two moms provided that love and care.
This study should further reinforce the scientific basis for same-sex parenthood, but we know opponents of same sex child raising don’t care much for science.
