Laird Petersen passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 surrounded by his partner of 16 years, Joe Price, family and friends. 53 years old, Laird played a big role in the Richmond and Chicago gay communities. Laird was a fighter not only for the LGBT community, but for himself as he lived with HIV for over 27 years. Laird was recognized by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley for his work there and inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2006. Most recently, Laird was the Director of Social Services at The Fan Free Clinic here in Richmond.
