Adam Ebbin was born in Huntington, New York in 1963 into a middle class Jewish family. His mother was a liberal, progressive Democrat, so in kindergarten he knew Hubert Humphrey was his man.
After earning a political science degree from American University in 1985, Ebbin spent more than a decade working in Virginia politics, including the campaigns of groundbreaking gay elected officials.
He secured his own political future when in 2003 he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 49th District. It made him the first openly-gay legislator in Virginia. Representing one of the most diverse districts in the state, Ebbin is a champion to the gay community and its quest for equal rights.
