The following letter from the desk of Gov. Terry McAuliffe opens up the 2016 Virginia PrideFest Pride Guide. You can read the guide in its entirety here, otherwise check out words from McAuliffe, as well as a scan of the letter, below:
I am proud of what we have accomplished since those two years have passed. PrideFest displays the incredible diversity of the Commonwealth by uniting all citizens who are a part of the LGBT community. I commend your persistent efforts to create a community of inclusion, dignity, and equality. Virginia Pride, as well as PrideFest, strives to create a better life for all citizens who are members of the LGBT community through visibility and promoting human and civil rights.
I work every day to make Virginia more open welcome.
I displayed my commitment to this effort this past session when I vetoed SB 41, a discriminatory bill that would have allowed businesses to refuse service to people solely based on who they are or who they love. I am committed to working with you to create equal opportunities for all Virginians.
Thank you for all you do to strengthen the Commonwealth. I send my best wishes for another succesful PrideFest.
