GayRVA tried to enter the Governor’s mansion to attend the meeting and was told by Capital Security the governor was honoring pride month. However, after we were denied access, Capitol Police said they could not confirm what the meeting was about.
Brian Coy, Press Secretary to Governor Terry McAuliffe, spoke with GayRVA on the phone during the meeting and compared the event to other such meetings which are unpublished, such as an event tonight where McAuliffe will meet with leaders of Virginia’s internet broadband providers. “We’re not treating it like a big deal, because it seems to be the right thing to do,” said Coy.
Coy said these events happen all the time and give those in attendance the chance to meet one-on-one with the Governor in a comfortable setting.
