Both a House of Delegates subcommittee and the Virginia Senate’s Rehab and Social Services Committee will hear remarks on four adoption bills which directly affect LGBT families Friday at 8:30 a.m. Remarks were already heard during a session on Thursday.
Two of the bills, Sen. Adam Ebbin’s SB569 and Sen. Donald McEachin’s SB647, would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation by fostering and adoption agencies that either contract with the state or receive state funding.
The other two, Sen. Jeff McWaters’ SB 349 and Del. C. Todd Gilbert’s HB 189, would allow those agencies to discriminate based on the “conscience clause”.
