In its most recent membership newsletter, the Gay Community Center of Richmond announced the closure of DT2 when its lease expires at the end of the month. Diversity Thrift’s satellite location has operated at 2219 W. Main St. since Nov. 2010.
According to the newsletter, “While the venture has never been a losing proposition, it is not worth the effort and expense to operate.”
GCCR cites not reaching new customers because of limited parking and ability for signage placement and an overlap in shoppers using the original location
Diversity Thrift’s flagship store at 1407 Sherwood Avenue will remain open. From September 26-29, items at DT2 will be reduced and remaining items will be moved to the original store.
Diversity Thrift announced on its Facebook page that August was the Sherwood Avenue location’s best month since opening twelve years ago.
I want people to leave with knowledge of what their community center does,”
