Join us for some appetizers and meet with activist Chris Mason in Richmond (at Babe’s in Carytown on May 12 at 6:30) as he stops in Richmond on his tour across America for equality.
“Driving Equality” is Mason’s 100-day, 16,000-mile trek across America to raise awareness of the various forms of discrimination faced by LGBTQ people in each continental state of the nation. Highlighting the differences in rights, laws, and amendments between the states, he hopes will shed light on the current social standing of LGBTQ individuals today and create a dialogue about the disparities across the nation.
During the 100-day trip, he will be meeting with LGBTQ community organizers, activists, and any citizens willing to talk. Through these interviews, he seeks to gain an understanding of the current political climates, and explore ways of combating discrimination.
The project will culminate with a documentary of his experience, with the aim of activating a discussion about potential strategies for ensuring equality.
