“The major area covered was policy and the Army’s standpoint,” said Sgt. 1st Class Troy Wolverton of the 217th Military Police at Fort Lee. “I personally taught the class to all my soldiers. Most of the focus of the training that was given to us was to focus on the fact that there really wasn’t a lot of change, other than the change in whether or not somebody has the ability to announce their sexual preference.”
Military Police and other service members in specialized are grouped as Tier 1, the first segment of the military to receive training. Tier 1 also includes judge advocates, chaplains, recruiters, personnel specialists, and other groups that will most likely be the first to deal with changes brought about by the repeal.
“Our focus had a lot to do with policies and laws simply because we’re going to be the first ones to deal with it, as law enforcement,” Wolverton said.
