Two Richmond blogs reporting on washout from a storm at a local park have turned into a debate on cruising.
According to the James River News Hub pictorial, Pump House Road has been shut down by storm washout and expected to be closed until March. The writer suggests that four cars parked during his recent visit went down an alternate neighborhood road illegally to partake in hooking up.
The only way to get there is to illegally pass through the private entrance at Tow Path Circle at the neighborhood at the top of Pump House Road, just south of The Carillon. Pump House Road is blocked off by barriers at Tow Path Circle and is not a through street, and it is illegal to go down the street through the private entrance. Must be some very desperate people to keep finding ways to use Pump House Road as a hook-up spot. There goes the hope that closing the road would bring cruising to an end.
What has been the result of the frequent outcry over cruising?
How would a crackdown on cruising for sex be approached?
Are the activities of anonymous consensual cruisers really infringing on others’ enjoyment of the park?
Can’t cruisers just “get a room?” (not this one. the cover’s blown)
The comments garner the most attention and have been stirring since an earlier post and again yesterday. Via Byrd Park:
this would be a great place to visit if it wasn’t for all the dudes that follow you around down there.
Yeah, who are those guys? I attempted to explore the Pump House back in 2008 but got creeped out upon my arrival.
elizabeth…most of the time, you are very close to this sort of thing being that some of the trails have twists and turns in them; and the act is generally not very noisy. and yea even the scene of one guy standing up and another on his knees can be traumatic. we’ll see if you opinion changes when you unexpectedly roll up on something like that.
Byrd Park cruising starts on the lawn, by the water fountain, across from the tennis courts. Guys will lay out for tanning during the weekends. Second spot is the Dogwood Dell area, on both the front and back side of the tower. Usually evenings. Third spot is off of Pump House Road, where the entrance to the historic locks are. Pump House Road is just before the ‘nickel bridge’..
With access to the Internet and homosexuality being more openly accepted now, why does cruising still occur?
