This week, Jimmy Kimmel‘s late night talk show had a transgender theme, as the host discussed the issue of gender neutral bathrooms, and a celebrity guest criticized those who want to restrict access without regard for gender identity.
On Tuesday, Brad Paisley picked up his guitar and sang a song he said he’d written, inspired by the events in North Carolina, where a discriminatory law prohibits people from using a bathroom that doesn’t match the gender marker on their birth certificate.
“Country music dealt with this in the ’60’s,” Paisley told Kimmel.
As Towleroadreported, here are the lyrics sung by Paisley, and you can watch a clip from Jimmy Kimmel Live below. I take issue with some of the specifics, but his heart was in the right place and explaining these issues to folks with zero understanding in a way like this is probably better than nothing? Maybe not? Let us know in the comments below.
Sometimes it’s hard to be a woman Especially when you were born a man. In North Carolina, they’re checking for vaginas If you want to use the can. And I say: sit by your man, We’re all just human beings. He’s just a human peeing… In the stall right next to you. Sit by your man Why is this such a big deal? Hike up your dress, and take a stand And sit by your man!
