Privileged, full of nerves, not a good advocate, not a woman of history and undeserving of woman of the year – these are things students at Academy of Young Writers, a supportive LGBTQ school in NYC, said about reality TV star and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner.
Jenner has come under a lot of fire for her conservative beliefs even as she took front pages of newspapers and magazines around the world after coming out as transgender. This tweaked the nerves of many transgender individuals and advocates, and she faced them head on during one episode of her reality TV show where her views on marriage, the gender binary, and everything in between were called into question.
Continuing her willingness to face her critics, she followed the New York Times to the Academy where she faced a new set of peers – trans students of color.
