I will never forget sitting in the congregation one Sunday evening listening to him present behind a large wooden pulpit. With anger and fire, his sermon was about the break down of the American family. He attributed this to many things, but the one that stood out in my mind was homosexuality. I always knew I was different at this point in my life, but growing up in this environment, I really didn’t know what it all meant. When the topic was brought up this day, I remember feeling very uncomfortable, but nothing could have prepared me for what was about to be said. As he went on a rant and rave, he started to go off on homosexuality. Clearly defining that gay people would “end the world” and be the reason “the American family would fall apart”. As he raised his bible into the air, he screamed, “Damn all faggots to hell!!!!” He simultaneously slammed the large book on the ground.
After spending much of his life in Virginia, he has lived in London, Manhattan, and now at 32, he has called Washington, D.C. home for the past four years.
