Operation Homefront, one of the nation’s leading nonprofits for military families, will hold a drag benefit in Richmond this March.
The event held at Nations on Sunday, March 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., will be hosted Richmond’s Ms. Esta Bunny. Proceeds will go to the Hampton Roads chapter of Operation Homefront. The event is part of Nations’ monthly HOOP (Help Our Own People) benefit series.
Operation Homefront was founded in 2002 by a Navy wife who noticed the adverse financial circumstances military families often found themselves in after deployments. The organization has since grown to 29 chapters nationwide, with the Hampton Roads chapter being founded in 2006.
Rob Hoeving, Operation Homefront’s Development and Fundraising Director, says that the recession has thrown the need for groups like Operation Homefront into sharp relief. “Since March of 2011, our assistance cases have more than doubled,” said Hoeving, “and we are seeing more and more families requesting a wide variety of assistance needs.”
