RVA Street Style
Richmond showcases a wide variety of interests and cultures, which makes the fashion in the River City interesting and unique. I have taken to the streets to find Richmonders that best embody the trends of the moment.
This outfit is well styled with just the right amount of accents making it effortlessly cool. By tucking the loose fitting tank into the fitted trousers, the look is automatically more casual while still retaining a put together aesthetic.
The lightweight fabric of the tank is great for summer and drapes over the body, a nice step away from restricting silhouettes. The higher rise of the pant is a nod to older styles with a new fitted twist. The brown belt creates a strong contrast from the black in both the pants and stripes of the shirt. The pop of brown softens the lines of this ensemble making it more accessible. The black shoes are a nice touch as well, creating a clean elongated line that makes the body look long and lean.
All in all this outfit is great and i’m a fan! For this look turn to American Apparel. A brightly colored pair of fitted shorts are a great summer alternative to replace the pants in this ensemble. The opportunities are endless.
This cropped ensemble is beyond fantastic. The top almost has a vintage appearance with dated prints and muted colors. By pairing a longer short with the cropped top, she is elongating the line of her body. So many people pair cropped tops with short shorts, and the look can come off as cheap, but this is a great length while still remaining flattering and youthful. A rule of thumb to live by when dealing with exposure in cropped tops and shorts or skirts is one or the other. Either a longer short with some stomach exposed or a longer crop with shorter shorts and legs exposed.
The belt and jewlery compliment the outfit making it very whimsical and fun. The simple muted shoe is perfect for picking up the color in the top that appears the least. By picking a compliment that is not as obvious, a “matchy matchy” issue is avoided all together. The outfit reads very well as a whole and is well styled. Hats off to you.
To get the look all you need is a printed crop top available at stores such as South Moon Under, Urban Outfitters, and Need Supply Co. The cut shorts can be made at home or bought in stores pre cut. For canvas shoes turn to Toms or Soludos. Experiment with bangles and different length necklaces to find the ones that are right for you.
These fashion forward Richmonders are great examples of street fashion done right.
