November’s a hot month for foot races (because it’s a cool month for Mr. Sunshine). Some of RVA’s most popular races are just around the corner, and it’s time to get registered!
First time racing? Quick Run-down: 5k = 3.1 miles; 8k = 5 miles, Half Marathon = 13.1 miles, Marathon = 26.2 miles (If you didn’t know that already, please don’t register for one). The races on November 13 are some of the biggest in the city, and are a lot of fun. You should do one of those without fail.
If this is going to be your first race ever, I personally recommend the HCA 8k on the thirteenth. Not only was this my first race ever, but it’s a good setting, and happens to coincide with my birthday. It’s crowded, it’s full of people of all capabilities, and it’s not terribly long (not to mention the last mile is like completely downhill). Also, they give out samples of Duke’s mayonnaise at the finish.
Those three races (8k, Half Marathon, Marathon) combined last year had over 15,000 entrants; this year will undoubtedly be more. It’s the autumn version of the Monument 10k!
