This Valentine’s Day, why not top off dinner with a sweet dessert wine? Some dessert wines are so delicious, you may opt to skip traditional dessert all together. Dessert wines contain more residual sugar, any where between 3 to 28 percent, and are great served after dinner. Here are a few suggestions:
Hogue Cellar’s Late Harvest Riesling: Wow! You know how Kelis’ milkshake brought all the boys to the yard? Well, this stuff will bring the boys, girls and all your Facebook friends to your yard as well. Make sure they bring over some shortbread to enjoy with it. It’s light, fresh and fruity – with some great apricot flavors. I’m hooked on this stuff! Bottles range from $8-$10 and can be purchased at Wine & Beer Westpark, Strawberry Street Vineyard, Food Lion and Kroger.
Cooper Vineyard’s Noche: Noche is always a wine festival favorite of mine. It’s delicious and decadent. Plus, I always get 98 degrees’ “Give Me One More Night, Una Noche” stuck in my head every time I taste it. It’s a lovely chocolate wine that’s not too sugary or thick. In fact, it’s incredibly smooth – and deserves to be included in your Valentine’s Day night. Pick it up at Kroger for around $18. (Or, visit the vineyard in Louisa County).
ChocoVine: So, I’ll be honest – I didn’t really enjoy this at first, but friends of mine really loved it (we all have different taste buds, eh?). ChocoVine is a mixture of dutch chocolate and French Cabernet and comes from Holland. Tastes like Bailey’s Irish Cream but without the strong after taste, and would be great to sip on after a good meal. Try some for yourself and let me know what you think. Pick it up at Kroger for around $10.
