Located at 917 W. Grace Street, the basement location is a popular night spot and known for its well-reviewed vegetarian cuisine. All of the dishes are vegetarian or vegan, but don’t let that sway you from eating there. I was quite surprised at the amount of remarkably good food.
The staff is comprised of young, hip-looking people, all of whom are incredibly friendly and eager to provide excellent service. And I’m not gonna lie, the bartender was very good looking… Just saying….
The atmosphere of the bar is made up of mainly VCU kids and city hipsters (which for the most part could be considered sexually ambiguous anyway). There was a nice older lesbian couple sitting behind me and two boys were slow dancing near the bar, so there’s no real doubt that you could bring a date here.
Ipanema recently opened a brand new patio out front for outdoor enjoyment. On top of that, the place usually hosts music events featuring various Richmond bands including No BS Brass Band and the Great White Jenkins.
As the night progresses, Ipanema becomes increasingly filled (sometimes to the brim) with young hipsters. No clean cut people here, so don’t worry about making yourself look extremely pretty. Ipanema isn’t really the place to pick up someone, but rather a place for friends to relax and have a good time.
