If you’re looking for something a bit more quiet and romantic, check out Six Burner.
The restuarant, which is located at 1627 W. Main St. in the Fan District, at the corner of Main and Vine, prides themselves on sophisticated dining without the pretense. I think they get it right. The dishes are extremely fancy looking, but still tasty and reasonably priced.
The dimly lit atmosphere adds a bit of romance to the evening, where you easily ignore the crowd around you. Sometimes it’s packed, others almost empty. Either way, it’s a nice place to be alone with someone.
There’s also an evening of jazz on the second Wednesday of each month. I caught the last one, which was highly enjoyable. The next one is on August 12, from 6:30-9pm.
Also, at the risk of being berated by a fellow foodie for not mentioning this, they have good selection of reasonably priced wine.
The Gay Community Center of Richmond has signed a lease for a storefront in the Fan. The second location for Diversity Thrift would operate as a smaller boutique serving neighborhood residents and nearby VCU students. The new store is slated to open before the end of the year.
