Taboo toy review – Bare Bondage Wrist Cuffs

Alison Barber Of Taboo | May 28, 2015

Thankfully, not all of my sexual experiences are solo, but I try to keep my reviews that way. Sure, there was that time my husband made a cameo, but it was our anniversary, after all. For the most part, this is between you and me.

Of course, some toys are easier to enjoy alone than others. I’d been eyeing the Bare Bondage line from New Sensations Novelties for a while. When I hinted that I’d love to sample their restraints, I knew I’d be getting creative.

I considered cuffing my wrists together, but unless you have an ear fetish or something, there’s not a lot of reason to move either hand from the same general area. I thought about attaching my wrist to my ankle, but ruled that look entirely unsexy. I settled on cuffing myself to my bed.

I immediately regretted my decision to do this when I had the house to myself. First of all, it’s not that easy to tightly and securely fasten a sturdy cuff to your own wrist. Secondly, which maybe should be firstly, what if I got stuck? But when I commit to something, I’m committed, and I’ll admit I was having too much fun to stop.

Bare Bondage cuffs ARE sturdy. Their look (namely their transparency) is so unique I wasn’t sure what to expect. Constructed of thick vinyl and nickel-free hardware, they’re fully adjustable and eventually fastened tightly around my small wrist. The other end, however, almost didn’t make the circumference of my bed post. Motivated by uncomfortable visions of myself cuffed to my bathroom radiator, I tugged as hard as I could and finally fit the pin through the last hole. (Don’t let this worry you. If your partner’s wrist is as thick as my bedpost, you have bigger concerns.)

Next I had to decide what to do with myself. Of course, one toy would have been too easy, so I selected two–my Colours dildo and the Lelo Ora. Yes, Ora’s donut shape made things more convenient, but cut me some slack! I do this for you!

I’ll spare you the details of pumping lube onto toys and setting speeds with one hand tethered to a bedpost. It doesn’t scream sensuality. I even had to enlist one foot for the second time on this blog. But once I had everything in place, I enjoyed myself. That is, until my fingers started slipping.

When I could no longer move Colours to my liking, I became angry. Moments before, when everything was hunky dory, I’d been half-heartedly tugging with my bound wrist to verify the cuffs were doing their job. Now I was really pulling. I was tempted to unshackle myself, but luckily or unluckily for me, I hadn’t thought to set a safe word.

After a few cleansing breaths and some select dirty thoughts, I got through the experience, but not through the cuffs. My abuse did not stretch, bend, or break them. Don’t let their low price point deceive you–these cuffs are no joke.

New Sensations Novelties’ Bare Bondage line also includes ankle cuffs, a ball gag, a crop, a collar with nipple clamps, and a hog tie. (I can only imagine what I’d do with the hogtie.) All are of the same clear vinyl with black piping, making them interesting, attractive, and easy to clean.

I’m looking forward to comparing my inaugural experience with one with a partner. I imagine it will be a lot more 50 Shades of Grey and a lot less flailing fish. Whatever happens, I can’t imagine a scenario in which my Bare Bondage Wrist Cuffs don’t earn an A plus.
