American Craft Beer Week
Today is the day for you to declare your independence. Today is the start of American Craft Beer Week which runs May 17 until May 23. Before we continue any further, read and sign the Declaration of Beer Independence.
With that out of the way, we can get to celebrating. RVA has everything you need to do it right this week.
1st Annual Real Ale Firkin Crawl
Kicking off American Craft Beer Week in style, Brown Distributing, Hop & Wine, and Specialty Beverage have organized the first ever Richmond Firkin Crawl. Celebrate the week as they tap 3 very special firkins at 3 very special bars.
5:30-6:30 Avalon (2619 W. Main St)- Blue Mountain “Ordinary Bitter”
6:45-7:45 Commercial Taphouse (111 N. Robinson St.)- Bell’s “Two Hearted Ale”
8:00-9:00 Caliente (2922 Park Ave)- Heavy Seas “Red Sky at Night”
Sadly, Legend is the closest local brewery to Downtown Richmond since the closure of Richbrau, at least until I win the lottery. Throughout the week, brewers will have a table open at lunch where guests can join them to discuss their beers and how it is made. Brewery tours will take place each day at 12:20 and 1:20. So order your food then take the tour while you wait and maybe see their new bottling line in action.
Capital Ale House
Tuesday is ”Steal the Glass Night” featuring Victory Brewing. Considering Victory makes 12 beers (not including seasonals) year round, I am curious to see what the selection will be like that day. Wednesday is Virginia beer day so try beers from various Virginia breweries.

Taking place Saturday from Noon to 6PM at the Diamond, the festival will feature over 50 craft, micro, and import beers from Breweries such as Duck Rabbit, Thomas Creek, Pyramid, and Sierra Nevada among others.
