Tops, bottoms, and everything in between are welcome at The Top, but particularly on their new Thursday night LGBT/Spectrum Nights.
Eric Lewter, owner of The Top, was proud and excited to share details about his new event space and the LGBT night in specific.
Lewter admits he’d never been to a gay club until his club became one last week, but he was pleased with the outcome.
“It was a lot of fun – lots of voguing, modeling, dancing,” said Lewter. “We tried to go for something different than the usual Richmond feel.”
After Nu Nightclub closed either this year, it left a unique void here in Richmond with few large club spaces for the LGBTQ. Lewter thinks The Top will provide a great alternative with 2 floors, 2 bars, LED lighting, projectors, 6 VIP areas, dancers, a dance pole and a dance cage.
But his thought process behind opening his club with a LGBT night comes from a nobel place. Before opening, he spent time with his gay family members to help develop the idea. Now he hopes he can bring a diverse option to the Bottom.
“Everyone has someone in their family who’s gay, I love my gay relatives,” said Lewter. “And there is no real diverse gay club in Shockoe… so I like being the only person who does it.”
The Top, formerly KingdomRVA, opened up in late June and has had a number of successful nights according to Lewter. Their first Spectrum night was last Thursday and Lewter said there were about 100 folks in attendance.
“You’ve got to see it for yourself,” said Lewter. “You wont be disappointed.”
We’re gonna try and make it out this Thursday, and we hope to see you all there as well.
