The Richmond Ballet has created a Pride Advisory Council that will meet quarterly to build relationships within the LGBT community.
With its initial meeting last month, the organization unveiled a council mission to a group of community leaders including representatives from GAYRVA.COM, the Gay Community Center of Richmond, and the Richmond Triangle Players among others:
“Richmond Ballet’s mission is to awaken and uplift the human spirit, both for audiences and artists…In order to create diverse audiences to support Richmond Ballet, the Pride Advisory Council has been formed specifically to help meet one of our core values to engage the Richmond community in a meaningful way through performances and programming.”
The ballet is also reaching out to the community with their new quarterly “OUT at the ballet” series debuting Saturday, March 31. The event features a current production followed by a community reception with company dancers.
Richmond Ballet introduces “Trio”, an iconic performance of three shows in one night on November 4-6 at the Carpenter Theatre at the Dominion Arts Center. “Trio” will feature The Kingdom of the Shades from Marius Petipa’s classic full length ballet, “La Bayadiere”, George Balanchine’s “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue”, and Ma Cong’s “Lift the Fallen”.
