Who doesn’t love a few whiskers tickle’n their nose with heady beats as the soundtrack?
If this is your idea of a good time, make sure to check out Beard this weekend at Strange matter.
“The Title, Queer, it’s inclusion – it’s the music we play. We wanted to make a queer dance party to give people an alternative choice in music.” Said Beard’s Co-creator and lead DJ Mike Albrecht. “When I go to gay bars I don’t always hear music I want to hear – and I wanted to put my perspective and what I think a queer dance party should be.”
Albrecht has been putting on Beard events since November, 2011. The unique sound and mood of the event developed a large following here in Richmond, and before long Beard became a premiere event for the community to socialize and get sauced.
Though Balliceaux had been Beard’s home for the last year, Strange Matter will be the new venue for the event. Albrecht said they needed to develop a space of their own. “We had a few issues with transferring a straight space into a queer space, which is what we want it to be.”
Expect unique music choices and hot beats to make face-friction too at this weekends Beard – A Queer Dance Party at Strange matter.
