Dupont Circle was flooded with rainbow flags and confetti this weekend for DC’s Capital Pride. Intense heat and a little rain could not deter these parade goers as they lined the streets and readied their cameras.
The Parade began filtering in around 5:30. In a Mardi Gras-esque fashion, bead necklaces were thrown for the crowds to catch as well as candy, bouncy balls, and condoms. First came the cars with the politicians showing their support. They were followed by DC’s Different Drummers who were led by the most entertaining conductor you have ever seen! Next was a marching band that played “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz.
Next to arrive were the drag queens, who came in cars and on floats. Their posse consisted of scantily clad men dancing. Floats for the “Black Fox Lounge” as well as other hot spots wowed with extravagant costumes and colors.
The clear anthem of the day was “Born this Way” by Gaga. Several floats blasted the tune as well as a live band that put a unique spin on the song.
Love ran rampant at the event. Happy couples were everywhere to celebrate Pride. Several couples were in the parade wielding “Just Married” signs, a feature that gained applause and cheering.
In the words of Rachel Zoe, it was “Major”. Check out photos of the parade below.
