“Old School, New Rules” celebrates diversity at Diversity’s Iridian Gallery 9/11

The artists in the upcoming Iridian Gallery at Diversity Richmond exhibition symbolize the pride, brilliance, vision, and talent in the Richmond art scene, as well as the LGBT community.
Lora Beldon, Terry Brown, Brittany Nelson, Chris Norris, Matthew Phillips, and Linda Voreland have contributed to Richmond culture by dedicating their lives to professional art practices, as well as teaching, participating on boards of non-profit organizations such as 1708 Gallery, and creating interdisciplinary art (Feast) and public events such as Urban Light Works and The Military Kids Project.

These painters, photographers, and mixed media artists bring a unique perspective to art by pushing beyond personal comfort zones and the limits and expectations of their chosen media. At its best, Richmond is a city of creative entrepreneurs that know and respect the rules of art and art history, yet recognize that they need to be broken, and do so creatively, conceptually, and with good reason. Cheers to the Old School and the New Rules – you challenge us.
The mission of The Iridian Gallery at Diversity Richmond is to foster lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer+ artists and their community by exhibiting their art as well as work that relates to their experiences. Iridian Gallery seeks to position the gallery and its exhibitions as a vital constituent of Greater Richmond’s vibrant arts culture.
Two volunteer bartenders are needed for the art opening on Friday, September 11th, 6-9PM. Just pouring wine, no complicated drinks. Must be 21 years old. Contact BillHarrison@DiverstyRichmond.org if you can help!
