It’s a Sunday afternoon and you want some thing to do you can:
A) Mow the Lawn.
B) Do your Laundry.
C) Wait till 9:00 P.M. to go out for a cocktail.
Yes, now you have a fourth choice. The Tea Dance at Vault.
Entering Vault is like going to C.O.N.T.R.O.L. from the old Get Smart TV show. You descend the long stairs into the depths of the city and you emerge through a solid steel door into this fantastic space.
Vault has two levels, the VIP lounge and the main bar/dance floor. The High white brick walls with red accents give Vault an open feel that makes you forget you are underground. A huge mirrored disco ball and round mirrored cage rotate at one end where the D.J.spins hot house music next to two poles, (several boys on Sunday demonstrated how flexible they were on those poles).
The bar itself is a great corrugated metal wave with an acrylic top with coins, dollars, and credit cards embedded within. Cocktails were served up by the Vault’s hot bartender David, who greeted every customer with a smile and flex of his biceps.
He also makes a wicked dirty martini. Drink specials were amazing my total bill for two beers and a shot came to $8.60.
For folks who want to be seen and have a relaxing conversation leather sofas can be found down stairs and up on the VIP glass enclosed second floor. Yes the music is THUMP THUMP THUMPING, but you can actually hear what other people are saying to you.
So enjoy option D) Tea Dance at Vault. It’s definitely an A+ event.
You've probably seen Eric "Pop My Flash" Russell around town. The Richmond-based photographer has captured everyone from celebrity drag queens and puppets to international bodybuilders. When not behind the lens, Eric can be found in front of it with his two web series that he hosts and produces Out and About and Under The Wig for GayRVA.com.
