The Bay Area singer/dancer is a rising star in the West Coast indie club scene.

This Saturday night, it’s time once again to live that PurpleLife. The dance night started this past summer as a collaboration between ANIMAL RVA and Deanna Danger Productions will bring San Francisco Bay Area musician/performance artist Saturn Rising to the stage at Godfrey’s tomorrow night, and it promises to be a special night for all in attendance.
Saturn Rising (the artist uses they/their pronouns) got their start as part of the backup dance crew for queer hip hop duo Double Duchess, and has spent the past several years making a name for themselves performing alongside artists ranging from Big Freedia to Le1f. A fixture on the Northern California club scene, they’ve also kept busy with things like theatre acting gigs and judging vogue contests, all the while continuing to hone their creative process through music.
Their debut EP, Darkest Dream, was released in August by Molly House Records, and features a moody, ambient sound that is dark and intriguing, drawing influence from synth-pop, R&B, experimental electronic music, and more. The EP’s combination of pop melodies, deep atmosphere, and soulful sensuality is reminiscent of artists ranging from Miguel and The-Dream to fka Twigs. It should definitely appeal to fans of local luminary Dazeases. Stream the EP below:
This Saturday night at PurpleLife RVA, Saturn Rising will join hoopdancer SpinSkeety and the whole PurpleLife crew in bringing together the best elements of club nights and dance performances, elevating the party while inspiring booties to shake and all in attendance to get down.
This month’s edition of PurpleLife RVA takes place Saturday, November 18 at Godfrey’s, located at 308 E. Grace St. Doors open at 10 PM; admission is $8 until 11 PM, $10 thereafter. Or you can purchase advance tickets for $7 by clicking HERE. Don’t miss out on the best party to hit town this month!
