Many people knew Andy Ward as local drag queen Trampolina Spaulding. Ward passed away in his sleep on December 12 and entertainers are stepping up to raise money for his final expenses Friday night, December 17 at Babes of Carytown. Ward worked at both Barcode and Babes in the kitchen, as bar back, and before passing was also working as a DJ at Babes.
Performers for the night include:
Alvion Arnell Davenport
The show begins at 9 p.m. and tips will be donated. The entertainers will be performing some of Ward’s favorite numbers to celebrate his life.
Babes owner Vicky Hester and several entertainers have been working to coordinate the event. Trampolina was show hostess at Babes of Carytown before Sharon Husbands.
“Andy meant a lot to a lot of people. You could never be down around him; he will be missed by many,” Husbands said. “He was never afraid to be who he was or tell you what he thought.”
Husbands will be performing a duet with Alvion Arnell Davenport and the duo have agreed to match the first $100 of their tips.
“The cast that night consists of friends, coworkers and people who dearly loved Andy. He would often say ‘My friends are my life.’ And to me that says a lot about a person right there,” Husbands said. ”He was one of the first people I met when I moved to Richmond and you could tell he was just a genuine person who was genuinely fun.”
If you can’t make the event, Babes will be accepting donations that can be dropped off in the form of check made payable to Ward’s sister, Lisa Ward Hollar.
A Fundraiser For Andy Ward is Friday, Dec. 17, 9 p.m. at Babes of Carytown, 3166 W. Cary St. Donations are accepted at the door.
