HBO’s Bros might not have the most original title ever, but it could provide a fresh voice for black gay males when it hits the home-screen in the near future.
Bros, written by Ben Corey Jones and staring Dijon Talton, Kevin Phillips, and America’ Duffy’ Questall, looks to paint a picture of life for three brothers living and looking for love in LA, and one of those brothers (bros) happens to be gay.
Check out the trailer below:
While it appears the gay brother will have a role front and center, Jones was quick to specify this wasn’t a “gay story” or even a “black story.”
“It’s a family story about three brothers, who happen to be black, and one who happens to be gay,” Jones said in an online interview with Indie Wire. “There seem to be more stories that deal with the interior lives of black women, but it’s hard to find stories that deal with the interior lives of black men. We’re either thugs or athletes, but there’s so much more to who we are that falls in between that spectrum. It’s ironic that in 2014, and even with a black president, one of the hardest things to be in this country right now is a young black man.”
There’s no premiere date se for Bros, but we’ll keep you up-to-date when it comes around.
